Hey all, thanks for checking out this page! :)
As a part of team RADelaide, who are participating in Mission Australia's annual Winter Sleep Out, I am super excited to be given the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of people who are in need and living in our community. The purpose of this ‘chilly sleepover’ (as I like to call it haha) is to increase awareness of homelessness in our own community and raise funds for Mission Australia, who help individuals address underlying causes of their homelessness and regain their independence.
On Friday the 30th of August, our team will be sleeping outside on a local school oval, in cardboard boxes and under tarpaulins. Then on Saturday morning the 31st of August we will walk over 15km, carrying all our belongings, into the city and spend the night at a homeless shelter* where we will share a meal, build relationships and experience the reality of the 100,000+ Australians who are homeless every night. We will then have to leave the facility, at the compulsory exit time of 5am to finish off our weekend.
I was excited at the opportunity to join team RADelaide this year and have chosen to be involved because of how lucky I feel to be blessed with a loving family and a safe place to call home, while 15,325 other 19-24 year olds Australia wide have not been given this opportunity.
As confronting and overwhelming as this weekend will be, I challenge you to consider supporting me and team RADelaide in our fundraising by either, joining us yourself for the sleep out or by making a donation. However big or small any donation will be greatly appreciated; money goes a long way and can make a huge difference!
